An Adam Vinatieri field goal brought the score back to 20-10 before Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme was picked off by Mike Vrabel who returned the ball 24 yards for a touchdown to make it 20-17.
Carolina's defense proved to be the difference in this clash. Stripping Patriots quarterback Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme of the ball saw them snuff out the Patriots charge as Stephen Davis grabbed his third touchdown of the game.
